My journey started almost 7 yrs ago when my husband and I decided we wanted to adopt a little dog, after many long hours of looking on Petfinder we came across a little face named Dandy a Rat Terrier/Chihuahua/MinPin mix and it was love at first site. We contacted the rescue, filled out an application and low and behold we found our Dandy was part of a bonded pair with his sister Lily, so we adopted both and that was the start of my wonderful sometimes heartbreaking journey into animal rescue.
Dandy and Lily (and another sibling Jazzie) were born in rescue to a mommy that was rescued from a hoarding situation, their tiny little mommy Rosie was found living in a dresser drawer while pregnant. My husband and I adopted Dandy and Lily, and another couple in New Mexico adopted Mommy Rosie and Jazzie, and we share pics and stories via email about once a year or so.
After adopting Lily and Dandy I started volunteering for their rescue, helping with fund raiser events-arrival's of new dogs-and fostering, then we heard that a young purebred Dachshund was coming in and since its was one of our fav breeds we decided to adopt him sight unseen. He came with the name Stout but we have changed it to StinkyDoo (like ScoobyDo) and he is a beautiful pure black smooth with deep almond brown eyes and he has truly become my most loyal best friend in the almost three years since we adopted him, he has such a playful sometimes devilish personality that he has many pet names too like Tink the tank (hes built like a german tank) HeMan (master of the universe-well maybe just the backyard) Little Diablo.
About a year later I saw an ad on Craigslist about a Chinese Crested that was looking for a new home, and it caught my eye as I always was facinated by this breed, we answered the ad and adopted him on the spot, his name is Kody and he is a chocolate true hairless, after we adopted him we searched out the breeder that he came from (to make sure it wasnt a backyard breeder/puppy mill situation) and we found out that his mother is an International Champion, his breeder breeds for show and unfortunatly Kody (aka Nina Cassandras wireless connection) didnt make the grade as he devolped an underbite and was disqualified for show and given to the people that we got him from, they didnt do reasearch on the breed and he turned out to be more active than they liked, we jokingly call him (Kody the crazy flying circus dog) as he literly will fly around the room, you think Jack Russels or MinPins are hyper you should meet Kody.
Since then Ive been getting more and more into the rescue world, helping many rescues with many different facets and have been involved with many events that have truly changed my life and the way I feel about animals, and how our country is so lacking when it comes to the care and well being of our little creatures.
Then in July 2008 I was truly honored to help with the arrivial of 89 dogs that were rescued from a puppy mill in Mo and hence came our 5th baby Frantz (aka Mookie Mookie, Hawaian for thank you-thank you) this tiny little long haired Dachshund was showing me on the way home that he was truly thankful for being rescued, he started out as a foster and for the first time in about 30 dogs I fell to "foster failure" and we adopted him, Mookie came to us with a rare congenmtial defect to one of his front legs that deemed it useless, so a month into foster the vet removed his leg at the shoulder so hes our three legged dog, but this little guys spirit and drive could teach us all a lesson, he sees NO boundries or obstacles, and hes a true thinking dog, hes amazing.
